Mission: Guanajuato Cohousing is forming a group whose members seek a sharing and caring bilingual, bi-cultural community, whose aim is:

to live comfortably and economically by sharing a fully-equipped communal house bordered by private cottage/duplexes .

to pledge their generous support to one another

to provide a secure home base from which to explore and gain appreciation of the culture, customs and traditions of Mexico

to live in harmony with the surrounding community of Guanajuato

Small community of 12-16 adults ages 30-70, couples or singles. Located in an ecological zone eucalyptus forest on a ridge-top above the city of Guanajuato with view on one side of the city below, and a reservoir on the other. Communal house built on one level ready for easy conversion. Is currently 3 bedroom/2 bath with large living/dining, fully-equipped kitchen, laundry room, storage, garage/workshop with studio apartment above, several outside terraces, parking areas, fenced. All wheelchair accessible with ramps. Small central patio with fountain, covered with a Lexan dome. On-grid electricity, rain-water capture and grey water systems, LP gas, back-up gasoline generator. Ample land to build individual, private duplex cottages with private backyards near the communal house. Herb/flower gardens, extensive xeriscaping. 10 minute drive to supermarket and pharmacy, 20 minutes to town center. City bus stop 10 minute walk. Pets allowed within policies that will be established by the group. One difference from conventional cohousing: due to the rules governing land subdivision in an eco-zone, members will own ALL of the land and buildings including the cottages through a non-profit corporation. Members will own shares which can be sold (under conditions contractually outlined by the group) rather than their individual cottages. Costs of building and costs of living are considerably less than the U.S.

We're looking for emotionally-mature, dependable, considerate people who appreciate good food and wine, music and the arts, and stimulating conversation in a relaxed, low-key atmosphere, who would enjoy sharing their skills, knowledge, and experience for the benefit of our community: who have lively minds and a calm demeanor; who are active listeners, compassionate advisers, and respectful of the natural environment.
