Cardinal Acres: Intentional Community Start-up
- Fellowship for Intentional Community
Mission: "From each according to ability and to each based on need."
From www.ic.org/directory/cardinal-acres-intentional-community-start-up/:
Cardinal Acres is a sustainable community comprised of self-reliant individuals who wish to live and work in reverence of and cooperation with the Earth.Values: Courage, curiosity, empathy, honesty, humility, respect, and wisdom.
Aim: To establish and maintain a community of generations devoted to working in harmony with the Earth and its bounty.
Vision: To live simply, equally, and compassionately, apart from modern capitalist, colonialized, patriarchal societies.
The goal of this listing is to find 7-15 individuals or families who are interested in pooling together to purchase around 100 acres of land in Saskatchewan's Boreal Shield. Each individual or family would own 1 acre of the land on which to build their eco-home, collect and store water and passive electricity, raise personal food gardens, and house animal companions. We would work together once our own residencies are complete to begin putting together a community centre consisting of a meeting hall, a childcare facility, grain fields, orchards, a communal greenhouse, a library, a medic/apothecary, etc.
Once we get our foundations down, we would spend much of the day maintaining our own units and "keeping house" and a portion of each day contributing to the community centre, and look at expanding and selling more acres to more individuals or families interested in our way of life.
We could have dinner and a meeting weekly, full moon celebrations monthly, and re-caps and goal-setting annually.
The reason I have chosen the Saskatchewanian Boreal Shield is that it's North enough to not be burning, yet South enough that we wouldn't necessarily be frozen, as climate change progresses. It's also central enough that we might not be drowned when the Arctic melts and floods the seas and Hudson's bay, as well as avoid the radiation and poisoned fish of the oceans.
