From www.ic.org/directory/east-brook-community-farm/:
Community forming on 90 acres in Walton, NY. A small group of us have recently purchased the land with the intention of building a peaceful, active, socially engaged and resilient community based in permaculture, regenerative farming, cooperation, and ecological living. We are farmers ourselves and are starting a whole-farm CSA this year created as a worker’s coop and seek others will join us in that who are also interested in right livelihood and in all aspects of growing things: veggies, animals, tree and plant nursery, mushrooms, herbs, bees, etc. The land and community can support folks with other skillsets and entrepreneurial passions too, and could be a base for small crafts, blacksmithing, child and adult education, permaculture design and installation, wildcrafting, and much more, even for those who work online, or have a passion for hospitality like organizing farm stays and retreats. We share the values of and aspire to FEC membership (thefec.org) in the future, but are also open to exploring possibilities with potential community members who may not be seeking a shared income, but who seek a homestead of their own and may be interested in a Community Land Trust-type equity-sharing arrangement.
We are just starting up and don't have a lot of income yet, but we think we are situated to do well and are willing to share what we have. We currently have shared housing available in a large farmhouse for worker coop members, and opportunities on the land for independent homesteads (and tent sites) as well. The land has good soil, multiple springs, a large stream, and is in the beautiful western Catskills about 2 miles from Walton, NY, and 150 miles from New York City.
We are open and welcoming to folks of all races, gender identification, sexual orientations, faiths, etc. and are kid and family friendly.
Our website is a work in progress http://www.eastbrookfarm.com/ (we could use some web experts here), and w're on FB and you can call us at: 607 865 5529 or email us at eastbrookcommunityfarm(at)gmail.com.
