From www.ic.org/directory/sakogsnas/:

skogsnas was started in 1973 in a very sparsley populated part of northern sweden we are non denominational ekological village co operative starting with 600 acres of forest a little farmland and 3 houses we have built a village of 20 houses and more outbuildings all decisions are made by concensus using voting when concensus has failed 3 times seldom resorted to each family has its own economy paying a sum each month to the co operative for necessary maintenance of roads etc.we have a culture house with cafe music etc a nursry and many small businesses in the village the forest is only used for building materials and firewood the arable land is farmed organically by members of the vollage we welcome new members but as this usually entails building a house it can take time we have 40 adult members ages range from 20 to 65 the majority are long time members in the summer we have a big outdoor theatre project and over the years have been accepted by the district as a meaningful part of the community we build as far as possible ecologically using local materials we have our own saw mill and carpentry shops and have over the years learnt to build for our extreme climate nonetheless many grow their own vegetables and we have local meat visitors are welcome to come we have accomodation in a small hotel and simpler accomodation in our large multi used hall we intend to continue our 37 year commitment to never give up.
