Mission: The Alliance for Global Community is dedicated to bringing "Global Community" to Humanity in a series of phases over the coming years and centuries. What we mean by "Global Community" is: all of Humanity experiencing a deep Sense of Community with both Humanity and Nature all the time in all domains of life. (By "Nature" we mean all species and the Earth herself.)
From www.ic.org/directory/alliance-for-global-community/:
The Alliance for Global Community is a global network of small "Cell Communities" that will unite to form a "Global Community Organism". Several such Cell Communities are currently forming. The Alliance is dedicated to bringing "Global Community" to Humanity in a series of phases over the coming years and centuries. What we mean by "Global Community" is: all of Humanity experiencing a deep Sense of Community ("Community" with a capital "C" for short) with both Humanity and Nature all the time in all domains of life. (By "Nature" we mean all species and the Earth herself.) We believe that it is this deep globally-shared Sense of Community that is of the essence of who we really are, and that it is its absence in modern life (a state of "Community starvation") that is the root cause of most human problems: wars, other forms of violence and abuse, racism, economic inequality, cancer and other modern diseases, addiction, etc.Through living in many different intentional communities, we have discovered that a group living in an intentional community together does not necessarily share this deep sustained Sense of Community: it tends to come and go, and often it is not as deep as it could be. Our research indicates that the reason for this is that various skills must be learned and practiced by all community members in order to maximize the shared Sense of Community in a group. These skills fall into 2 main areas: relational skills and institutional design skills. The relational skills have to do primarily with what our shared intention is and how we speak and how we listen, but exactly what these speaking and listening skills are is not obvious, and modern culture does not teach us these skills. Similarly, we do not usually learn the various institutional design skills (for the institutions of family, residence, economy, government, education, religion, technology, etc.) necessary to design community-based institutions that will facilitate strong Community. Such Community-facilitating institutions are essential at all levels of society if we are to attain the goal of Global Community and relieve all of the unnecessary global suffering caused by the current global Community starvation.
In order to help people learn the relational skills and institutional design skills necessary to form the network of small Cell Communities that will move us toward the goal of Global Community, we offer weekend Global Community Workshops that teach those skills and help participants to get started on forming Cell Communities (including transforming existing communities into Cell Communities) post-workshop. In these workshops, we focus on how to facilitate deep Community with both people and Nature, and illustrate how Community with the one feeds Community with the other. These workshops are non-profit and are offered in "by donation" mode, in order to cover the basic costs.
Our workshops also help participants to learn how to connect with and be inspired by what we call the "Spirit of Community", which permeates and embraces our Universe through and through. Different individuals and groups have given different names to this Spirit of Community. The important thing is not the name, but rather the shared experience of the reality of this inspiring Spirit. Our workshops facilitate experiencing that reality.
Our workshop facilitators have had more than 25 years of experience in facilitating such workshops. For detailed information on the time and place of public workshops, or to organize a workshop for your existing community or group, contact us at globalcommunity@mail.com. We also publish a series of books called "Nourishing the Sense of Community, a Collection of Stories". These are stories told by individuals or groups of experiences of a strong Sense of Community. We offer electronic or print copies of these books by donation, through the above email address. If you are interested in copies of the latest volume of these stories, and/or if you would like to submit an individual or group story for the next volume, please contact us.
