OK people, here’s the deal - I have 20 acres of rural undeveloped property. I repeat UNDEVELOPED property. There are no buildings, or infrastructure of any kind. This land has been vacant for several years, and it’s time to put it use, so I thought why not an ecovillage.
This village/community is just now forming, so I could use some help in establishing the ground rules. I figure the village can determine for itself what restrictions and freedoms it’s willing to permit. Basically, I just want to start a dialogue with some people interested in forming a village from the ground up. My initial thoughts were perhaps allotting each member/family a certain amount of space for their own dwelling and agricultural pursuits, perhaps a half acre or even a full acre, along with access to some common acreage.
I really don’t want to charge anything for membership to the community, but it’s possible that could change in the future based on community consensus.
As the owner of this property, I have the obligation to ensure it used responsibly. What that means is I have final say in anything that takes place on the property. Don’t worry, I’m not some kind of control freak that wants to control everything – far from it. I believe in the adage “Live and let live,” and I’m sure the community can come to decisions by themselves.
Like I mentioned earlier, I would like to start a dialogue with people who may be interested in helping to establish an ecovillage from the ground up. I am specifically interested in ideas you may have about housing, community projects or anything else you may want to discuss.
There is no infrastructure on this land, but there is water and electric at the border of the property, so getting connections should not be a problem if that’s what you want/need. I haven’t spent much time on this land since I was a kid, but at the time there were two fresh water springs on the property, and I’ll see if I can’t locate where they were and take a few photos.
I will be posting photos on this site along with some youtube videos soon so that you can get idea of what the property looks like.
Don’t hesitate to email me with questions or comments.
