Meet the neighbors:

Mission: To decolonize our minds, hearts and behaviors of hyper-individualism, separation and competition, realizing that we really do belong to one another, that we're all part of the web of life and that humans need to re-inhabit the earth in ways that are not destructive.

From www.ic.org/directory/work-that-reconnects-ecovillage/:

The Work That Reconnects Ecovillage is a forming urban community located in the Fruitvale District of Oakland, California. Our 'mother ship' is Canticle Farm, which is comprised of six adjacent houses with fences removed between 36th and Harrington Avenues. Inspired by the life of Francis of Assisi and the Work That Reconnects as taught by Joanna Macy, Canticle Farm provides a platform for the Great Turning – the planetary shift from an industrial-growth society to a life-sustaining society – one heart, one home, and one block at a time. The Farm manifests a commitment to living and working towards more sustainable alternatives through spiritual practice, integral nonviolence, gift economy, restorative practices, urban permaculture, education and other work necessary for regenerating community in the 21st Century.
The neighborhood is largely Latino. Amor Art Farm and Manantial de Luz (formerly Casa de Paz) are just up the street. Our intention is that as we grow in number, we will house folks through renting/buying houses in the neighborhood.
