Mission: Affordable cooperative housing

From www.ic.org/directory/hei-wa-house/:

Heiwa was founded in 1985. Our current membership capacity is nine adults. We have two child members. We are a vegetarian household, and our membership tends to be environmentally conscious, politically active, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender celebratory, and musically inclined. Our home has often served as a meeting space for political and social-justice organizations, personal-growth groups, and community strengthening gatherings.
Over a period of fourteen years, we lived in four consecutive rental houses. In 1999, we purchased our current house, establishing a permanent location for Heiwa. In September of 2005, we expanded to an adjoining house. We dream about continued growth on our block, creating a cooperative neighborhood in northwest Ann Arbor.
Heiwa's mission statement is: to provide affordable cooperative housing for a diverse membership through cooperatively owned property, communal living, and resource sharing, while upholding principles of sustainability, peace, racial and economic justice, lifelong cooperative living, and involvement in local community.
