Mission: HOWL is held in perpetuity for all women, is a non-profit organization guided by a collective and welcomes residents and visitors who strive to form an intentional community on the land. Our goal is to preserve and steward the land and collaborate in developing projects and programming, open to a diversity of women, that reflect our shared values of compassion, respect, stewardship, environmental sustainability, and love of the earth.
HOWL defines Intentional Community as a group of women with a shared set of values who are involved in furthering the HOWL mission by working together collaboratively, non-violent in words and actions.
From www.ic.org/directory/huntington-open-womens-land-howl/:
Huntington Open Women's Land (HOWL) is a 50-acre land trust in northwestern Vermont established in 1987. HOWL is both an intentional community and Open Women's Land, which hosts events and welcomes visitors year round. We currently have three residents and eight members on the Collective. Our visitors' guidelines as well as our resident application procedures are on our website.
We have an old farmhouse and barn. The house has four bedrooms, kitchen, bath, and two common spaces. There is camping space on the land as well as a small pond.
We love the land here and are dedicated to keeping it as a wildlife sanctuary and as a sanctuary for all womyn. We have ongoing educational and social programs and enjoy many visitors throughout the year from local Vermont communities and around the world. Please call or email ahead to arrange a visit. We welcome and encourage visitors to stay for up to two weeks (sliding scale fees apply).
