The common good bank will be a new kind of community savings bank in Shelburne Falls, serving communities in rural Western Massachusetts and dedicated to the common good.

On the face of it, the common good bank will be just like any other community savings bank: offering checking accounts, home mortgages, small business loans, car loans, CDs, ATM cards, etc.

But this will be no ordinary bank. This is not just another bank with a social agenda. This is a social agenda with a BANK -- a bank designed from the ground up to embody, advance and fund a compassionate social agenda effectively. Unlike other banks, the common good bank will give the bulk of its profits to the community to empower those most in need, near and far. Member depositors will use an innovative combination of democratic systems to to guide the bank's socially responsible investment priorities and contributions to the community. This is economics by the people, for the people.
