Mission: To enjoy all that remote Alaska has to offer while still being just connected enough to the grid that we can participate in urban life when necessary.

From www.ic.org/directory/whatevers-clever/:

I would like to organize an intentional sustainable community. I've been doing research for years in sustainable communities and I know so many people that just don't want to have to work 40 hours a week to move ahead. The technology required for completely self sufficient low cost living has moved leaps and bounds in the last few years with things like inexpensive and reliable solar panels and battery banks and integrated bio-system aquaponics etc etc.

It won't be difficult or expensive to build a complex of tiny home cabins on a large tract of land just far enough outside of a city so that a group of people could live together with a very low work input and very low cost. They could share a small condo in town with bunk beds for the 3 days or so a week they would each need to work in order to support their lives. Some could exist entirely though remote internet work or retirement income. I can design and build the entire infrastructure of the community and help maintain it. It's only a matter of finding the right 10 or 20 people. This is the initial stage of finding and organizing these people.

Farming will be done on the property in the summer and shared hunting and fishing trips. A large greenhouse will be constructed that is productive even in the dead of winter.

Anyone who wants to live off grid but doesn't have the entire spectrum of skills alone. It could be artists, woodsman, retired folks, people on disability that can still do simple chores around the greenhouse, pretty much anyone that wants to have a small inclusive community well outside of the over regulated cities.

No one says that this will be incredibly easy. It will be a combination of the skills and abilities of the people who choose to participate and the financial and other resources that they bring to the project. With the right people and skills and financing yes it could actually be easy.

I'm looking for more of a remote community that isn't ritzy but has all of the creature comforts.

There are methods to incorporate among a group of people that prevent every legal issue that you might be concerned about and have been used successfully over and over. You would get a legally enforceable fair share and no one can take your personal portion of the project. You could sell out at any time and the other members would have first right of refusal. Condominium and town home complexes are organized this way.

One of the central needs is to find an area or areas where the typical permitting issues simply don't exist. In the unincorporated boroughs of Alaska, you don't need permits for almost anything... Nearly anything goes and there are plenty of other places like this in the United States... There are already several of these communities in Alaska and others are popping up. Ideally I would like 2 locations. One in Alaska and one on the Big Island in Hawaii. People could stay in either location as their health and the weather dictates.
