Mission: Our house consists of working and college professionals: We are African American, Navajo, Chinese and white. We are queer and we are straight. We are introverts and and we are extroverts. We are parents, sisters, brothers, friends (no children living here full-time, currently, but families are welcome). We are scientists, artists, community activists, builders and property professionals. We are Christian, Jewish, Shamanic and Spiritual Not Religious. We are vegetarians, omnivores, cilantro-lovers and cilantro-haters. We volunteer, we practice yoga, we play Pokemon, we drive red cars, we walk, we ride the bus.
Diversity
Harambee values and celebrates diversity across race, class, gender, sexuality, age, mind, and body. We recognize and organize against oppression from individual to systemic levels.
Shared Work
Harambee members work together on everything from daily chores to long-term house projects. Current projects include cleaning and renovating bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as preparing our yard for future gardening.
Healthy Living
Harambee members recognize the importance of leading fulfilling, healthful lives and support each other's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. We differ in our lifestyles but come together over delicious food and eccentric humor!

Harambee Hive co-op is looking for housemates! Why the name Harambee Hive?
In Swahili "Harambee" means "all pull together," and "Hive" references bees and their cooperative nature. Harambee Hive is a community where members come together over diversity, shared work and healthy living.
We are a startup community coop/communal house in Southeast/Downtown Lansing that opened Sept 2014. We are 6-8 people of all ages (20s - 60s year olds)
We share groceries, do regular chores, and cook together every other week. We don't have a television, though we're considering a large screen for game nights and house viewings of The Wire. We do have wi-fi.
We have a spacious eight-bedroom house on three floors that is a 10 minute walk from Lansing Community College, Cooley Law School, State Capitol and CATA main transit station (to travel to all parts of Michigan!).
We have on-site parking, restaurants, shopping, cafes conveniently located in Downtown Lansing.
The house is three floors with a small yard, dining room, huge living room with sleeper couches and desk, a guest room, shared kitchen (and kitchenettes on each floor) with a dishwasher and a pantry with a washer/dryer.
