Meet the neighbors:

Mission: Our community focus is the building of community. We believe that fostering the development of community is at the core of resolving many of the adverse effects of modern society in this country and helping people to realize a better way of life. In keeping with the building of communities of people, we are permaculture practitioners and are also working on building other plant and animal communities that work together to help support each other.

By living together, we can lower our ecological footprint (resource use), be happier, and help to show others a better way to live!

From www.ic.org/directory/elko-tree-streets-community/:

Dan and Jackie (married couple) bought a large house in August of 2017 to turn into an intentional community here in the "Tree Streets" of Elko, NV. They moved down from Boise, Idaho where they had maintained an intentional community for 9 years. The community in Boise (Permacultureland) was a fabulous experience that Dan and Jackie want to replicate here in Elko, NV. We have a strong commitment to building and fostering the development of community as the road to resolving many of the world's problems.

As community members, we often eat dinner together, share chores, and maintain open lines of communication that allow for an easy way to resolve conflicts before they arise.

The house itself is a large four bedroom, two bath house. The basement is in various sections, but the community is working to finish off a large section of the basement to provide another three bedroom, one and a half bath living space. There is also a separate part of the basement that serves as the community workshop with a full compliment of tools.

When the house was purchased in 2017 the lot was essentially a bare weedy space. Since that time, a large number of fruiting and nut producing trees and bushes have been planted. Gardens are currently being built with an irrigation system coming soon. After the basement living space is finished off, the community will be building a semi-subterranean, earth-sheltered, passive solar, four-season greenhouse. When that is done we'll move onward with more projects to increase the energy-efficiency and sustainability of the community.
Lots of projects to turn this community into the permaculture paradise it will one day be. Involvement in these projects is not required to be a community member.
