Meet the neighbors:

Mission: This community is focused on providing an environment for individuals to build comfort and stability in their own lives. We offer various living arrangements for people to make specialized contributions of their labor, in exchange for a place to live inexpensively, and with plenty of privacy and autonomy. The household atmosphere is quiet and reflective. A focus on self improvement is strongly encouraged. We try to match each member with a labor commitment that they genuinely enjoy.

From www.ic.org/directory/liberty-ship/:

We are a couple that bought a large house on a half acre in the suburbs of Klamath Falls. The property was owned by a married couple for 40 years until the end of their lives, and their enormous contribution of personal energy shows all over the property. It's too much for us to take on alone. One of us operates an online business to pay the house bills, and the other does all the fixing and remodeling. We are transforming the property slowly into a collective community of individuals, each of whom contributes some hours of their favorite labor in lieu of some rent. Individuals need to have their own income, but it can be modest.

As of Aprill 2018, we have a renter who prepares meals as her work trade. This will always be a position in the community, as neither owner is inclined to cooking. She will probably move on early 2019, at which point we will need a replacement kitchen magicworker.

Our current primary focus is our child, and we are hoping to find another family or single parent with children around the same age (6 yrs) to cohabitate. Our daughter is homeschooled, brilliant, and lonely for kid interaction. The ideal match is someone who wants to take on a little more than their fair share of the child supervising, in exchange for below-market rent ($300 util included) in one of the main bedrooms.

We also have a huge established garden we need someone to take over. We can offer summer and fall tent space in the yard for someone to take that on; veggies and yard care. If you would like use of the house, we would ask $100 a month for your utilities. We would like to have periodic flocks of meat chickens for household food, too. The owners have black thumbs and need help in this arena.

Finally, there is a large area in our unfinished basement, and a very well built shed in the yard that could be converted to additional living space. One of the owners is extremely handy, but there is very much work to do in the house and we can always use additional help. If you are eager to learn about home repair, interested in an apprenticeship, and don't mind living in an unfinished basement room, please get in touch.
