Meet the neighbors:

Mission: “USING THE POWER OF COMMUNITY TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENT.”

From www.ic.org/directory/seattle-village-cohousing-community/:

This development is in the early stages, with the goal of building approximately 25-30 homes. Our intention is to be multi-generational, net-zero, have a few micro units of affordable rentals, and supplement the food source of the community with an aquaponics growing system.

We want to be close to public transportation and have high walkability rating. We are currently looking for a site on the outlying south end of Seattle for affordability and diversity.

Our goal is to have shared walls in a townhouse-style development, as opposed to individual units, for affordability and maximum use of space. Our design aesthetic is modern, with minimal adornment.

Shared resources are an important part of the Cohousing way, including shared meals, transportation, laundry, workshop, and space for arts and crafts. The multi-purpose great room and commercial kitchen in the Common House are vital spaces to our vision. This space will be flexible for use in culinary experiences, workshops, conferences, music, art, and classes. It is important for the great room to be adaptable with flow into the outdoors.

To date, our members are Kenneth Yakle, Steve Burton, Bob Schoenecker, and Chris West. We're in the process of looking for a site, and need up to 25 more members. We've hired a professional cohousing consultant, Katie McCamant, and will be hiring an architect and developer within the next few months.

The earlier one becomes a member, the more discount you receive on your home, and you are able to choose your preferred home in the order in which you join.
