Meet the neighbors:

Mission: Flower City Cohousing Community (FC3) is an intentional cohousing community in an urban setting which values the sharing of resources, sustainability, and simplicity. We are committed to cooperation, consensus building, and diversity. In the larger community, we strive to be a socially and ecologically responsible neighbor.

From www.ic.org/directory/flower-cty-cohousing-community/:

Flower City Cohousing Community is in Rochester, New York. On the southern shore of Lake Ontario, we are a 3-hour drive from Toronto and 65 minutes from Niagara Falls. Our goal is to live together in a multigenerational, urban community by 2018. We meet regularly for social events and, as a whole group and in committees, to develop our community. Our members include educators, retirees, business owners and artists.
• We value sharing resources, sustainability and simplicity.
• We are committed to cooperation, consensus building and diversity.
• In the larger community, we strive to be socially and ecologically responsible neighbors.

We are committed to living in or near Rochester on a 1-2 acre site with 20-30 housing units. Our community will include duplex/town homes and a 3-story building containing condo units and common house facilities. Housing units will range from studios to 3 bedrooms, each with a full kitchen, bathroom(s) and living room. The common house will include a large kitchen and multi-use room suitable for community dinners and meetings, as well as shared tool and equipment space, laundry room, guest room and play area for children. We are a supportive community and anticipate including design features that enable residents of diverse abilities and ages to thrive.

Our community will be located in a remarkable region noted for its outstanding arts and culture (including the Strong Museum of Play, Garth Fagan Dance, GEVA Theater, The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rochester International Jazz Festival), 17 colleges and universities, quick access to the world-class Finger Lakes Wine Country, excellent health care and many growing high-tech or health-related businesses.

We welcome people of diverse ages (including children), abilities, sexual orientations and ethnic/racial backgrounds who would like to join us as we identify a site and plan our community.
