Meet the neighbors:

Mission: Ralston Creek Cohousers seek an intentional community where decisions come from the collective genius of its members talents and experience. We desire to live in a net zero energy community where geothermal and solar energy replace all fossil fuels.

From www.ic.org/directory/ralston-creek-cohousers/:

The Ralston Creek CoHousers have chosen Geos as the ideal partner for an exciting cohousing project that fuses the best of intentional neighborhoods, healthy living, and green technology. Cohousing choices range from studios to 2 bedroom condominiums in a 3 story, mixed use building with a common house.

We are meeting now to develop our vision, grow our community, and plan our space. Groundbreaking has begun on townhomes and single family homes in the Geos development. (http://www.discovergeos.com).

The developer and the location within Geos for cohousing has been determined. Geos is slated to be a net zero energy community containing around 250 residences in Arvada, Colorado. The Geos neighborhood already has 8 completed units, where the modern, clean architecture pairs with state of the art solar, geothermal and air exchange. Superior craftsmanship and tight standards regarding heating/cooling loss make these homes comfortable and cozy.

With easy access to the Ralston Creek bike path, and overlooking open space suitable for a community garden, the planned “Gatehouse” cohousing building will be 3 stories (elevators) above a parking garage with 20 or fewer individual units and a common area suitable for shared meals and activities. A shared outdoor courtyard will encourage gatherings.

Old Town Arvada (also along the bike path) has a light rail station with free parking, a summer Farmer’s Market and local independent shops and restaurants. Within a few miles, art, music, dance, theater and classes for all ages are all housed in the Arvada Center and multiple recreation centers cover all aspects of sport, fitness and aquatic classes and drop-in opportunities. Multiple grocery stores, restaurants, banks and big box stores are also close by.

Six families have committed to building this unique intentional community and we are seeking others to move the project forward to an architectural design stage. The current core group has attended national and regional cohousing seminars, networks with other communities and have hired a cohousing consultant and web designer to make our dream a reality.

With a core group of 12 or more families, decision making can begin on all aspects of community building and the projected timeline of 2 years to move-in will begin.

Cost is projected to be $300 per square foot and commitment includes financial obligations as well as participation in all aspects of planning and implementation.
