Mission: To protect cows, be self sufficient, a place of pilgrimage, offer spiritual education and above all develop love for Krishna.
From www.ic.org/directory/new-vrindaban/:
Founded in 1968 by disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, New Vrindaban became the first rural farming community of the Hare Krishna movement in the U.S.
In the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, about one hour from Pittsburgh, PA thousands of visitors from all religions and nationalities come annually to have a spiritual retreat and partake of the many festivals. People also like to attend work parties to get hands on experience in our certified organic gardens.
New Vrindaban is a great opportunity for WWOOFERS, Help Exers, Work Exchangers to not only learn and share experiences in farming and caring for the Earth but to also hike and bike our 2,000 wooded acres. Many streams and creeks are available for a swim on a hot day.
The spiritual aspects, based on the Vedic ancient holy texts of India, make for a well rounded body, mind and soul experience. The diet is lacto vegetarian. Proper care for the cows who provide us with milk and manure for our gardens is very important.
