Mission: low-tech anarcho-socialists/ Caring individuals with an open mind who use technology responsibly

From www.ic.org/directory/smart-progressives/:

We can be described at "low-tech anarcho-socialists", but a better description of us would be "Caring and open minded individuals who use technology responsibly". We try to limit our exposure to EMFs, particularly the microwave frequency ones from devices such as cell phones and Wi-Fi. We live by the principle of "Live as you want. Harm none." We aim to include a wide variety of people in our community encompassing different lifestyle choices, religions, and even political views. We are going to accept all of them as full individuals of the community and not ostracize them or condemn their actions so long as what they are doing is not harmful to others. Lastly, we are social. Though we all have our personal lives and our own sources of income, we also enjoy being with others in the community and are mindful of their needs and willing to be there for them when needed.

Everyone is welcome in our community, but there are two groups we are especially looking at attracting. The first one of these is electrosensitives, as well as those who are MCS/IEI. We feel this is important, as I am electrosensitive myself and as far as I know there are no other currently existing EHS-friendly intentional communities that are connected to the grid. Though we will be connected to the grid, none of our buildings will have smart meters. Also, our property will be at least half a mile, preferably one mile, from the nearest existing or planned cell tower. Though individuals will be allowed to use cell phones and Wi-Fi in their own homes ( completely banning them would be unrealistic in today's society and would excessively infringe on personal rights), they will not be allowed in the common areas or during group activities. The common house will have a couple of low-EMF computers with a wired connection as well as Internet jacks providing wired connections to laptops and other compatible devices.

The other group if families with older children and teenagers. When intentional communities accept families, they tend to focus on ones with younger children, as they are going to be raised from birth or nearly from birth in the community. Though that is a good idea, and we will be open to some families with younger children, in many of these communities the children leave once they pass the "little kid" stage and the community thus becomes too much of a little kid-centered place. Teenagers and older children, on the other hand, would have more of an understanding of our community and our ethics and will be better able to have intellectual conversations with the adult members and participate in our activities. We also aim to foster quality connections between youth and adults, which is something that is unfortunately lacking in our society.

Our property will have a common house which will be open to all members of the community. Dinners will be held there on a regular basis and we will also regularly have game nights and other events. The community will also have an organic farm. Housing will consist of a wide range that will include individual homes as well as apartments. For electrosensitives living in multi-unit buildings, there will be at least one EHS-friendly building where cell phone and Wi-Fi use will be restricted. Some members may need to, for whatever reason, live off site. They will be accepted as full members of our community (with the possible exception of some voting privileges) so long as they are able to participate in our events.
